Advocacy SIG Meeting
Online Meeting
Wednesday, January 12, 2022, 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM EDT
Category: Special Interest Groups

The MATSOL Advocacy SIG seeks to bring together educators who want to learn about and get support for advocacy at local, state, and federal levels. This SIG seeks to empower educators to advocate for multilingual learners, their families, their teachers, and the field of TESOL & Bilingual education.

The Advocacy SIG Steering Committee would like to invite everyone to share in a discussion of concern centering on: Addressing the Needs of Students With Disabilities Who Are Learning English. Presented by our very special guest, Dr. Maria B. Sherpa, who will have MUCH to present on but is also willing to go where questions and discussion lead us. So come ready to learn, ask questions, and dive into deep discussion! Here's two of Dr. Serpa's publications that may be of interest to read before the meeting.

Dr. Maria B Serpa, Professor Emerita of Education & TESOL Bilingual-Special Education at Lesley University, MA, USA, where she has served in several roles including Director of the Graduate Teacher Education Programs in Moderate Disabilities (Monolingual & Bilingual) for fifteen years. Her teaching career spans from elementary to college teaching and professional learning from K-12 to  Higher Education. Most of her academic research and practice has been focused on nondiscriminatory assessment (bi)Literacy/dyslexia, UDL, and culturally and linguistically responsive IEPs. Find out more about Dr. Serpa and her work here...

You do NOT have to be a MATSOL member to join this SIG meeting - and registration is FREE! Invite and share this with all your colleagues who may be interested!
