ESL Unit Developers SIG

The ESL Unit Developers SIG is a collaborative network for K-12 teachers throughout the state who are interested in creating, implementing, and sharing ESL curriculum units that reflect WIDA ELD standards and MA DESE expectations, as currently outlined in the Next Generation ESL Project: Curriculum Resource Guide.

The goal of the ESL Unit Developers SIG is to facilitate collaboration in writing, reviewing, implementing, and sharing standards-based units* in order to promote effective English language development for EL students state-wide.
*In this remote learning period, we are also developing and sharing lessons to support ELs and ESL teachers.

Some of our activities include:

  • Sharing and developing K-12 ESL units, both individually and collaboratively

  • Reviewing and providing feedback to one another on developed units and those in progress
  • Educating and advocating K-12 teachers throughout the state on the process of unit development
  • Providing suggestions for adaptations of lessons and units (MCUs, units developed by SIG members, or textbook-based units)
  • Discussing units relevant to participants’ grade levels in breakout sessions
