Are you interested in advocacy?  Passionate about multilingual learners?  Are you a teacher candidate?

MATSOL offers FREE Membership to matriculated undergraduate and graduate teacher candidates in Massachusetts who are interested in working with multilingual and immigrant students, families, and communities!

  • Meet experienced colleagues who can act as mentors.
  • Share your experiences with other early educators.
  • Access free and discounted resources, events, and professional development courses.
  • Learn about local job opportunities.
  • Participate in advocacy efforts to support diversity, equity, and inclusion in the education of bilingual/multilingual students learning English.

Join an active community of pre- and in-service teachers, teacher leaders, and school administrators from PK-16 institutions committed to providing equitable learning experiences for students learning English.

For Early Career Educators

Free Student Memberships are available to college and university students preparing to become educators in TESOL, bilingual, and EL education. The MATSOL Board of Directors initiated this new membership program in 2020 to help support early career educators of multilingual learners. 

Student Member Benefits

Student Members receive all regular MATSOL member benefits, plus

  • You will be automatically added to MATSOL's Early Career Educators Special Interest Group (SIG) Elist. (You may also join other MATSOL SIGs.)
  • You may receive free registration for selected MATSOL events, such as the 2021 MATSOL Virtual Conference.

Eligibility

Applicants must be:

  • a new member of MATSOL;
  • a teacher candidate matriculated in an undergraduate or graduate degree program for TESOL, applied linguistics, education or related field in Massachusetts. Student memberships are open to early career educators only. NOT eligible: Current educators enrolled in part-time continuing education courses OR teacher candidates who do not live or study in Massachusetts.

Proof of Student Status

Applicants are required to submit proof of student status. To qualify for student membership, you must register using your school email address as part of proof of student status. In addition, there are two options:

Option 1: Student Status Documentation: Upload a screenshot or document from your college or university showing current enrollment in a degree program. Submissions will be reviewed to ensure they meet the criteria for a student membership.  Documentation submitted must show: 

  • Your name
  • Enrollment in a Massachusetts USA college or university
  • Proof of matriculation in a Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degree program (not continuing education courses)
  • Your expected graduation date

Membership Duration

Student Memberships expire in one or two years, based on anticipated graduation date. After that time, members must renew at the Professional rate.
